YARDFOWL - Rogues in Paradise & Colonialism Preface to Yardfowl: A Voice to Challenge the Colonial Legacy. Yardfowl is an imaginary person in Rogues in Paradise, inspired by numerous Bajans I have experienced and observed throughout the years. He embodies the voices of those who survived and still come to grips with the legacy of colonialism in Barbados. Unlike the colonial stories, which often skirt around the topic of slavery or method it with a sense of regret, survivors speak with feelings rooted in the genuine and enduring effects of physical, psychological, and psychological abuse. Yardfowl is their voice-- vibrant, unfiltered, and grounded in the lived experiences of his ancestors. He shows the strength and strength of those who endured and got rid of inhumane destruction, inherited trauma, and systemic oppression.
